The 04/02/13 Joy Jar

1 Apr

Every season requires going through the closet and listing what needs to be mended. Having made the list, moi realized that she needed some thread in different colors. Today’s deposit into the ‘Joy Jar’ is the needle and thread that mends clothes.

Forgiveness is the needle that knows how to mend.

It’s a couple of days before Easter and Spring weather will be around for Easter. It’s expected to be about 70 degrees on Easter. Warmer weather means that it’s time for T-shirts. Moi went to H&M and Forever 21 and there are all kinds of Spring and Summer colors. H & M even had a rack of T-shirts for $5. Today’s deposit into the ‘Joy Jar” is the T-shirt.

I’ve always thought of the T-shirt as the Alpha and Omega of the fashion alphabet.
Giorgio Armani

Many years ago, I concluded that a few hair shirts were part of the mental wardrobe of every man. The president differs from other men in that he has a more extensive wardrobe.
Herbert Hoover

I’m most comfortable in T-shirts, but they have to have some style to them.

Moi read somewhere that per capita the folks in Seattle own more sunglasses than just about anywhere else in the country. It’s a sunny day and guess what? The sunglasses are out. Today’s deposit into the ‘Joy Jar’ is a kick-ass pair of sunglasses.

Do not allow people to dim your shine because they are blinded. Tell them to put on some sunglasses, cuz we were born this way bitch!

Lady GaGa

Some movie stars wear their sunglasses even in church. They’re afraid God might recognize them and ask for autographs.

Fred Allen

Always have sunglasses with you. They’re great for when you can’t be bothered to put make-up on.”

If one really wants to feel comfortable there is really nothing more comfortable than a comfortable, worn old pair of jeans. Moi has a pair which is sufficiently broken in. Today’s deposit into the ‘Joy Jar’ is an old pair of jeans.

I have often said that I wish I had invented blue jeans: the most spectacular, the most practical, the most relaxed and nonchalant. They have expression, modesty, sex appeal, simplicity – all I hope for in my clothes.
Yves Saint Laurent

Blue jeans are the most beautiful things since the gondola.
Diana Vreeland

I like bootcut jeans in a plain style with a nice line.                                                  Martin Freeman

Ladies, beauty is not defined by the size of you jeans.

Robert Escalante

Jeans represent democracy in fashion.

Moi likes to go easy on the makeup. On the weekends, she likes to go at least one day without makeup and possibly two. Just foundation, blush, and eyebrow pencil. Even when moi goes without foundation, she still uses her eyebrow pencil. Today’s deposit into the ‘Joy Jar’ is moi’s eyebrow pencil.

That’s the mistake women make – you shouldn’t see your makeup. We don’t want to look like we’ve made an effort.
Lauren Hutton

Soap seems to be a very individual thing. Some people have used the same brand of soap for years because that is what they have always used. Others go to the store and buy whatever is on sale. Some people choose soap by the way that it smells. Still others choose soap by the color of the bar. The newest thing is to get soap free of chemicals or perfumes or that is specifically formulated for sensitive skin. Thankfully, not that many folks that moi encounters, even on the bus, are allergic to soap. Soap is useful for washing hands, particularly in flu season. Moi likes her favorite soap store at the mall because it is a cornucopia of soap. The theory is one can never have too much of a good thing. Today’s deposit into the ‘Joy Jar’ is soap.

Soap and education are not as sudden as a massacre, but they are more deadly in the long run.
Mark Twain

What is elegance? Soap and water!

Anyone’s life truly lived consists of work, sunshine, exercise, soap, plenty of fresh air, and a happy contented spirit.

Soap and water and common sense are the best disinfectants.

2013 is going to be a good year for moi. It has loads of promise, hard work, and anticipation. Moi began the ‘Joy Jar’ exercise with the thought – this is the year that the Lord has made, moi will rejoice and be glad of it. One of the colors moi associates with Spring and rebirth is pink. Moi got her nails painted that hot rosy pink color because she was ready for Spring. The nails look fabulous. Today’s deposit into the ‘Joy Jar’ are moi’s hot rosy pink nails.

Your attitude is like a box of crayons that color your world. Constantly color your picture gray, and your picture will always be bleak. Try adding some bright colors to the picture by including humor, and your picture begins to lighten up.                       Allen Klein

Hard to believe but, the first day of Spring is March 20 and Daylight Savings Time starts in March as well. The news reports are about a blizzard in New York and New England. Fall means that one begins to think about colder weather and the need for sweaters. In many parts of the country where there are clearly defined seasons, people store their sweaters. In Seattle, one keeps their sweaters handy until at least August. Today’s deposit into the ‘Joy Jar’ is a warm sweater.

I’ve about decided that’s the main thing that separates happy people from the other people: the feeling that you’re a practical item, with a use, like a sweater or a socket wrench.

Rusted Root

A couple of weeks ago, moi’s favorite soap and fragrance store at the mall had a sale. You could get three things for x dollars and you could mix and match items. They gave you cute little bags to put you stuff in. The place was crowded and although they say Disneyland is the happiest place on earth, the crowd was happy. Today, moi broke open the Lemon Vanilla lotion and the subtle calming scent really made the moment. Today’s deposit into the ‘Joy Jar’ is scented lotion.

Moi loves her big bag or big purse, whatever you want to call it. Actually, moi has several big bags. She keeps all her stuff in it, whether it is immediately needed or not. After all, you might need this or that and someone else might need this or that. They are actually big enough to be useful in Seattle, a city which instituted a plastic bag ban. These days one brings a bag on shopping trips or has to purchase a bag in Seattle. Moi has her calendar, umbrella, smart phone, snacks, lip gloss, and all manner of other stuff. Sometimes, there are snacks. Of course there are pens. Today’s deposit into the ‘Joy Jar’ is her big bag.
