The 07/10/13 Joy Jar

Moi got an insect bite on her leg, so she went to the Walgreens in downtown Seattle. It was on the way home and it was open. Third Avenue in Seattle is an interesting street when the commuters go home to tuck themselves into to safer communities. Standing outside was an gentlemen who made have been older, but maybe not. One could tell that life has been hard for this man. ‘Change, please,’ he said. ‘You can even catch me on the way out.’ Moi went in and bought the oitment. His head was down. I waited tell he looked up and made eye contact. He paused for a moment. I smiled at him. He seemed startled and smiled back. Dropping the coins in the cup wasn’t the greatest exchange. The smile which said I recognize your humanity was worth more. Today’s deposit into the ‘Joy Jar’ is the power of a smile.

One thing that one notices when the sun comes out in Seattle is that there are more people with smiles. Of course, a smile is good rain or shine, but there are definitely more smiles during sunny days. A smile can bring a sunny day to a face that telegraphs they are in the midst of a gray day. Smiles are free. Today’s deposit into the ‘Joy Jar’ are smiles.

A couple of months back moi went to a conference and one of the vendors was giving away either a mug or a minature teddy bear. Moi chose the teddy bear along with everyone else. The bears went fast. The bear is perched above moi’s desk. Today’s deposit into the ‘Joy Jar’ is a teddy bear.

 

A Teddy bear is a faithful friend

The 02/23/13 Joy Jar

Today started out good because moi got a haircut and along with the cut, a head massage. Moi left the salon smiling and got on the bus. The bus driver gave her a smile, she smiled back. Next, moi went to lunch and got Kung Pai Chicken, she smiled at the person behind the counter and they smiled back. Next, moi went to J.C. Penney and got cookware on clearance. Moi smiled at the sales clerk and the sales clerk smiled back when moi told her how much she loved the store because they always have awesome sales. To think, the smiles started because my hairstylist gave moi a great haircut because she likes moi as a client because moi seems so happy. Life is circular. Today’s deposit in the ‘Joy Jar’ is a smile.

Moi started her ‘Joy Jar’ in response to what some interpreted as ‘The Mayan Apocalypse ‘ which was supposed to occur on December 21, 2012. This is the deposit into the ‘Joy Jar’ for January 1, 2013:
