Moi does not use any additional salt on food, but she sprinkles the pepper very liberally. There are many kinds of pepper and the better the quality the better the taste. So, hold the salt and please pass the pepper. Today’s deposit into the ‘Joy Jar’ is pepper.

The disparity between a restaurant’s price and food quality rises in direct proportion to the size of the pepper mill.
Bryan Miller

Americans can eat garbage, provided you sprinkle it liberally with ketchup, mustard, chili sauce, Tabasco sauce, cayenne pepper, or any other condiment which destroys the original flavor of the dish”

Henry Miller

It takes four men to dress a salad: a wise man for the salt, a madman for the pepper, a miser for the vinegar, and a spendthrift for the oil.”
A

The chief pleasure in eating does not consist in costly seasoning or exquisite flavor but in yourself”

He who controls the spice controls the universe.”

Usually, when moi gets a hankering for something, it will be chocolate. Lately, dark chocolate with sea salt is the fix. Today, while running around to and fro, moi got a hankering for a really good tuna fish sandwich. So, moi went to Which Wich on the Ave and ordered a baked tuna fish sandwich with the bread scooped out, pepper jack cheese, spinach, tomatoes, olives, banana peppers, lite mayo, a little oil and lots of pepper. Yum. Today’s deposit into the ‘Joy Jar’ is a tuna fish sandwich.

I know people that could serve me canned tuna and saltine crackers and have me feel more at home at their table than some people who can cook circles around me. The more you try to impress people, generally the less you do.
Alton Brown

Instead of finding ways to discourage people from eating seafood, we should be busy finding ways to help everyone eat better. Canned tuna is so healthy and affordable that everyone can easily gain its benefits as part of a healthy diet.

David Burney

Sandwiches are wonderful. You don’t need a spoon or a plate!
Paul Lynde

With faith the size of a mustard seed, you can indeed move a mountain, but you can hardly be expected to garnish your sandwich.”
Jarod Kintz, American Association for the Advancement of Aardvarks Presents: Dear Natalie

Give the right man two fishes and some bread,
and he will feed the world;
give the wrong man two fishes and some bread
and he will invent the fast-food fish sandwich.
– Jonathan Lockwood Huie

Life is like a sandwich – the more you add to it, the better it becomes.”               Unknown

Sometimes a simple dinner is all one really wants. A nice salad, a glass of wine, and of course, bread and butter. Today’s deposit into the ‘Joy Jar’ is bread and butter which means bread that is buttered.

If you have extraordinary bread and extraordinary butter, it’s hard to beat bread and butter.
Jacques Pepin

Good bread is the most fundamentally satisfying of all foods; and good bread with fresh butter, the greatest of feasts.”
James Beard

The need of the immaterial is the most deeply rooted of all needs. One must have bread; but before bread, one must have the ideal.”
Victor Hugo, The Memoirs of Victor Hugo

Bread and butter, devoid of charm in the drawing room, is ambrosia eating under a tree.”
Elizabeth Russell (Mary Annette Russell, Countess von Arnim) (1866-1941) English novelist

Honest bread is very well, it’s butter that makes the temptation.                         Douglas William Jerrold

I wont quarrel with my bread and butter.                                                               Jonathan Swift

I like bread, and I like butter – but I like bread with butter best.”

Moi was thinking about all the ways one can eat cheese. One can put cheese on tacos, make a sandwich with cheese and top a salad. Cheese can be melted on just about anything and used for fondue. A slice of cheese and an apple slice is wonderful. Everyone’s favorite mac and cheese recipe will definitely please crowds. The varieties of cheese are endless. Today’s deposit into the ‘Joy Jar’ is cheese.

Age is not important unless you’re a cheese.
Helen Hayes

The clever cat eats cheese and breathes down rat holes with baited breath.
W. C. Fields

What happens to the hole when the cheese is gone?
Bertolt Brecht

Give me a good sharp knife and a good sharp cheese and I’m a happy man.”
George R.R. Martin

Well, many’s the long night I’ve dreamed of cheese–toasted, mostly…”
Robert Louis Stevenson III

Moi doesn’t eat a lot of cake for two reasons. One, she likes the good stuff which is made with milk, eggs, cream, real chocolate, real fruit and real flavorings. That costs $$$$. Given the choice between good wine or good cake, the wine wins. Second, once one has a slice of good cake, why stop at just one piece. Eating the whole cake is as Martha would say, ‘not a good thing.’ Today, moi has a tiny slice of really good cake. The kind of cake that rolls around your mouth and makes your taste buds stand to attention. Today’s deposit into the ‘Joy Jar’ is good cake.

Let’s just say you may regret that second piece of cake.’
Oh my God. Regret cake? Whatever was about to happen must be truly evil.”
Rachel Hawkins,
Hex Hall

If I was made of cake I’d eat myself before somebody else could.”
Emma Donoghue, Room

Cake is happiness! If you know the way of the cake, you know the way of happiness! If you have a cake in front of you, you should not look any further for joy!”
C. JoyBell C.

I suppose I wanted to have my cake and eat it.
But then again, what were you going to do with your cake if not eat it?
Frame it?
Use it as a sachet in your underwear drawer?”
Marian Keyes,
Watermelon

Let’s face it, a nice creamy chocolate cake does a lot for a lot of people; it does for me.

Moi is trying to learn how operate her new smart phone. Moi must be the last person in America to get a smart phone, all the twelve year olds have them. Moi’s old phone was considered dumb by smart phone standards, but the phone was way smarter than moi. It is at times like this that a little glass of wine makes the moment so much more mellow.. Today’s deposit into the ‘Joy Jar’ is a really good glass of wine.

Give me books, French wine, fruit, fine weather and a little music played out of doors by somebody I do not know.”

Wine is one of the most civilized things in the world and one of the most natural things of the world that has been brought to the greatest perfection, and it offers a greater range for enjoyment and appreciation than, possibly, any other purely sensory thing.”
